Bob Marshall

Watch Bob, and watch him close. See if you can catch him slippin. You never will, because this plunging draft horse of the VOLUMEN skins never does. Every beat, fill, ride...every damn flam-flam or paradiddle he plays fits as tight and snug as in those walls at Macchu Picchu where you cant even slip a piece of paper between these stones as big as a Volkswagen Beetle. Its a craft hes honed in nearly half a dozen other Missoula bands, including Prosciutto, Saved for This Dark Dawn and the much-missed Spanker. The tireless BobJob is still foaming to rock long after his bandmates have packed it in for the evening, and, like Doug, hes also an excellent cook. Keep him away from the chilies, thoughlast time Bob came to my house, he whipped up some 2:30 AM quesadillas that cleared the place out like a canister of CS gas.

VOLUMEN - (((CRIES FROM SPACE))) (2002)

The best word Ive yet heard to describe the Volumen would be cheeky. Definitely coming from the same school of rock as 80s college radio bands as the Young Fresh Fellows and The Dead Milkmen, theres a playfullness in these tracks that Im sure is annoying to some, jump-up-and-down great to others. Plus, theres a sci-fi angle thats hard for my dorky side to ignore.

The bands from Missoula, Montana, and a good friend of mine spent a year in that town, working on a weekly publication. He knows the folks in the Volumen, and right before putting this post together I asked him if he had any good tibdits of information about them to pass along to you. He said Uhhummthey all live in the same house togetherthey play great showstheyre obsessed with outer spacetheyre all from Missoula, MontanaIm in one of their short films! You can see it on the Volumen website! Gee thanks, Dan.
