Chris Bacon

First of all, let me just tell you that his middle initial is, in fact, P. That makes him Chris P. Bacon. Just go ahead and relish that for a minute. Done yet? Okay, Ill wait. How about now? Real good, then: Chris is the clown prince of VOLUMEN, the bands court jester, its theatrical fall guy. And also its most recent addition, although youd never know it to hear the way his wicked cool keyboard lines blend seamlessly with VOLUMENs fully-realized, graduate level guitar pop sound. Chris is also the ace up the VOLUMEN lead vocal sleeve, the catalyst by which an already, um, uh, high-octane show can suddenly take that quantum leap into fourth-dimensional coitus between audience and band with a perfectly-timed cover of the KINKS "Superman" or his own ladies-choice-slow-skate showstopper, "Super Confident Guy." And front-side ollies? Yeah, hes got those.

VOLUMEN - (((CRIES FROM SPACE))) (2002)

The best word Ive yet heard to describe the Volumen would be cheeky. Definitely coming from the same school of rock as 80s college radio bands as the Young Fresh Fellows and The Dead Milkmen, theres a playfullness in these tracks that Im sure is annoying to some, jump-up-and-down great to others. Plus, theres a sci-fi angle thats hard for my dorky side to ignore.

The bands from Missoula, Montana, and a good friend of mine spent a year in that town, working on a weekly publication. He knows the folks in the Volumen, and right before putting this post together I asked him if he had any good tibdits of information about them to pass along to you. He said Uhhummthey all live in the same house togetherthey play great showstheyre obsessed with outer spacetheyre all from Missoula, MontanaIm in one of their short films! You can see it on the Volumen website! Gee thanks, Dan.
