SACTO (via strip mall)
Sacto was pretty danged great! We took a little detour into Napa
on our way up to Sacramento from San Francisco. I'll give you two
guesses which Volumen were behind that move. Heh. I don't
really know a good wine from a good kick in the ass, but I prefer
getting a warm glass of the former.
We ate at a real good restaurant called Taylor's Refresher.
Dang. It was awesome. I had chili cheese fries, a
strawberry shake and a coke. Yup. Bacon and Doug had a
glass of wine. Yeah, they serve wine at fast food places in Napa.
We got to Sacto a little early and found the venue without any
problems. The venue was a yogurt shop called Red Square.
Yup, yogurt shop. It was tiny but cozy and fun as hell. We
were pretty loud for that joint, but we made the best of it. The
line-up was:
Deathbeast - These guys are my new favorites! They were sort of a
bubblegum interpretation of The Cure and/or Stone Roses? That
doesn't really do them justice, but they were really, really
good. Maybe I'm just saying Cure because the bass lines were
really melodic. Hopefully I didn't freak them out with my fanboy
antics.
Then we played a short sweet set and tried not to take a thousand years to move all our damned equipment around.
Last was The Mega Cools [NOTE: Two words or one, I can't
remember] This band featured Charles (formerly of Millhouse, Four
Eyes and virtually everything else ever in Sacramento) on guitar, and
one incredible drummer. She was 18 years old, drove a Mercedes
wagon and kicked out the jams!
All in all, a great time. We met some former Montanans and found
our way to Mike and Liv's house for some Samhain on DVD and skate
videos. Ahh... TV. Where have you been the last 6 days?
