Part 5

After leaving Austin we had a twenty plus hour drive to Denver. We left late in the afternoon, so we decided to camp out in Oklahoma. Shortly before reaching our destination we decided to stop at a gas station for beer and other junk. This gas station was eerily similar to our El Paso experience. There were thousands of crickets and other crazy bugs all around us. Any sane person would have thought it was one of the plagues. After some confusion, we found a spot to set up camp. Right off the bat we started a fire, so we could have a little light. Within minutes the ranger arrived. He told us there was still a fire ban in this here parts. He asked us if we were planning on camping here. We thought he was going to tell us to leave, because of a sign we saw when we came. It was unclear if we were allowed to stay there or not. Any ways we told him that we had planned to stay the night and quickly asked if that was alright. He said it was and took off. For some reason we all assumed he was there to holler at us. We probably assumed that because of past camping experiences, including Wasau on our last tour. After he left we all had a good laugh at his Oklahoman accent. Bacon said... "Y'all better drop them britches naw." The rest of the night consisted of drinking the Bud Light my parents gave us and a lil' exploring. When we fell asleep that night we had know idea there were a million chiggers around us. Within the next few days I discovered over fifty chigger bites on my body. Many of them lasted for over two weeks. Here's some photos of our camping experience.

The next day.... I believe was our longest drive on tour. I think it was around twenty hours. We got into Denver that night, and had the whole next day to relax. Bob, Bacon and Doug decided to see the free Cheap Trick concert in the park. Shane and I hung out with our old buddies from Laramie who now reside in Denver. I believe they call themselves Team Federal... or something Federal. Any ways they're good guys... they showed me several video games that I'd never played before. Hooray for dorks! That night we played at the 15th Street Tavern. It was our second time playing there. The last time was pretty disastrous.  My speaker blew and Shane and I exchanged some unpleasant words. You know the tri-yearly brotherly explosion. This time it was better, but we still had a ton of technical difficulties. We think that place has cursed us! How about some Denver photos doods!

After Denver it was off to Volumen's original home base, Laramie Wyoming. Not much had changed in Laramie. It seemed a little less insane than when I lived there. Or baby I'm just less insane. Regardless, it was great to see a lot of old friends. We did the normal Laramie BS i.e. barbequing and heavy drinking. The show took place right across the street from our old "Hickey House." Eight Ball alley is an arcade that just recently started putting on all ages shows. I know Bacon was psyched to play Videogamin' in an arcade. We played with the "Custom Caravans" and "Lynn Darling and the Rawk Show." There was a nice sized crowd that night.... many new faces. We sold a bunch of merchandise which helped us return home. At this point in the trip we were getting killed at the gas pumps. The ambulance only gets nine miles to the gallon, but she sure is purtty! Hey about y'all check out some Laramie photos.

So concludes the diary of the Legendary Mustache Tour 2001....
