Part 4

Geez..... it's been a while since I've done this. I've forgotten where the hell we were on tour at this point. I shall return shortly with the answers......

Ah yes.... the desert! When we last left you, we were on our way to Phoenix. The stench of Vegas was still rotting in our brains. It turned poor lil' Squared into a pile of mush. When we finally arrived in Phoenix, we were sweaty and starving. It was still early yet, so we figured we had plenty of time before the show. As it turned out, the show was in Mesa not Phoenix. So we headed to Mesa in search of the Nile. We finally found the address and there was nothing there.... it seemed to be abandoned. As it turned out the Nile resides in the back alley. It's located in a basement with no A/C. After we arrived we were told that we were on in fifteen minutes. That was just enough time to unload the gear and get into our EMT ( Emergency Mustache Tour ) uniforms. Let me tell you it was freakin' hot in that place. It was full of lots of teenagers, who seemed to be having a good time. The sound guy in this place played the same Led Zeppelin song the whole night. Beta even claims he could hear it through the monitors between songs. I forget which Zeppelin song it was. I'm sure everyone else in the band could tell you. I'm a little rusty on my Zeppelin. Here's a few photos of the show. There's not that many....considering we were maybe in town for two hours.

After the show we stopped at Denny's and experienced the normal weirdness that comes with a Denny's dinner. After that we were off to El Paso with some more night driving. We pulled into El Paso the next morning. We stopped at a gas station right outside of town. Shortly after we departed the Ambulance...... we were instantly surrounded by hundreds of flies. It was quite possibly the most disgusting part of the tour. Once we actually arrived in El Paso.... we discovered it wasn't much better. The whole town was one big strip mall. N' Sync graced the cover of the local newspaper. Since we had the whole day to kill, we went to the mall and watched Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. With a little bit of luck we eventually found the bar that we were playing at. After about an hour or so of hanging out at this bar, the owner informed us that the guy who booked the show took off to Colorado. He didn't do any promotion, and there were no bands on the bill with us. Therefore the owner suggested we go to his other bar and play to the regular customers. It ended up being another show... that turned into a big long practice with free booze. There's no pictures of this show for good reason.

After the El Paso show we hopped into the ambulance for some more night drivin'. Bob made some bitchin' cheese sandwiches for everyone, which got us through the night. The next afternoon we arrived in Austin. Volumen 1 and Squared's parents reside in Austin. This gave us three and a half days to relax, eat, and sleep well. Our first night in Austin was a night off. It gave us some time to recoup. The following night was our show at Room 710. This show ended up being sort of shitty. The room was once big circle. There was pool tables on one side, a stage on the other and a bar right smack dab in the middle. The unfortunate part about this set up was that you don't have to pay unless you go on the side with the bands. However anyone on the other side can still see and hear the bands perfectly with out paying. Needless to say not many people came over to the dark side. We were also sandwiched between two crappy Ska-Funk type bands. The highlights of this show were the appearances of some old friends. Chris Fairbanks... the fellow who did the design for our first two unicorn shirts was there accompanied by his girlfriend. Also our old buddy Damon ( who is responsible for the artwork on How Do You Spell...? ) graced us with his drunken presence. I've known this guy for years, and I can remember many nights of drinking with him. This was definitely was of his most drunken moments. I have the pictures to prove it. Towards the end of the night our good friend Sana showed up from Dallas. Here's a few photos of the 710 Show.

After the 710 show, Colin rolled into town, and the Hickey family was complete. The second show was at Beerland. This is a fairly new club in Austin, but that didn't keep people from coming. We played with Arlo and Deathray Davies that night . Both bands put on an awesome show. We ended up hitting it off with the Arlo boys. We recently had a fantastic show with them in Missoula. We're trying to team up with them for a spring tour in California. On this particular night we had to play first, but we still kicked some ass. Here's some photos from the Beerland show. All of the good ones were taken by my pops with his fancy-ass camera.

Here's some photos from Austin that don't fit anywhere else. I have probably a hundred shots from there, but I won't waste the time putting them all up.

Go to the final chapter dood!
