SEATTLE
After driving a bazillion (11+) hours from Redding, we were exhausted
by the time we got to Ballard. However, some Pho at a nearby
Vietnamese restaurant fixed us right up. At least, we were fixed
up enough to unload the ambulance and wait patiently to see The Lights
kick out the jams like they always do!
Upon unloading we noticed that we had a casualty. Merchbot's
keyboard fell off and I had to take his acrylic face off to try and
thread the ribbon cable back into the slot. It made me cuss quite
a bit and I finally got it in there, but I couldn't get keyboard
response. Cram! I think Merchbot rolled over in his grave
when he saw that we replaced him with a piece of yellow paper with
prices written in sharpie. Doh!
Like I said, The Lights played first and they were freaking
awesome. They are easily one of my favorite bands that are
playing today. Their arrangements are really minimalist, yet they
pack an incredible punch. Ahh... Lights.
We got to play second and we had an awesome set. Bob (a former
Missoulian) donned a leather motorcycle suit and helmet and danced
around during Sexy Astronaut. He's great and I'm not just saying
that because he let us crash at his house afterwards. (Thanks
again Bob!)
Just like Portland, this show was packed with former (and current)
Missoulians. Sarah and the ladies came up for spring break and
rocked out so danged hard that we had to give them a ride in the
'blance after the show. Heh. Also in attendance were Aaron
(from Dypak), Tim Holland, Tom Dewar and some more I'm
forgetting. Representing Laramie, WY (and Barbie Car, Dorgan
Owner, The Vested) was Reed Cowey and Tim Butterfield. It was
awesome to see these guys again. It'd been years for me. I
finally got to meet Tim's wife, Tracie, so that was pretty great also.
Anyway, during all the catching up after our set, No-Fi Soul Rebellion
setup and kicked everyone's asses. These guys are better than
ever! Mark has an almost creepy power of suggestion of the
audience. It's great. I'm glad he's a rock band frontman
because he could easily use those powers for evil... Waco style.
We sold buckets of merch at the show and got paid great. Sunset Tavern rules!
The next morning I woke early in the 'blance and headed into Bob's
house. Some sunshine and a eukulele pretty much made my
week. Then we headed to Easy Street records. It's a
breakfast place and record store in one. Holy crap. They
had EVERYTHING!
NOTE: Go buy our CD there. We left some on commission.
