Sacramento

The last time we were in Sacramento we played for two hours to two pool tables. We were fairly certain this was going to be a better show than the one last summer. We pulled into Sacramento in the early evening on Friday night. After no time at all we found the block where the show was supposed to be. It was a fairly small bar called Primos. On the corner barely twenty feet from the bar there was a bunch of people picketing. There signs said, "Don't shop for hookers here." Instantly we knew we were in the classy part of Sacramento. We all got out of The Ambulance and right away were approached by two bums smoking a joint. The first guy said, "You guys gonna be doin' any Ghostbustin' tonight?" Meanwhile the other dude was trying to sell Shane drugs. Then the first fellow asked if we were a Christian band. We told him no. This fellow immediately took a hit off his "marijuana cigarette" and said, "That's too bad...you'll never make it." So right off the bat we're pretty concerned about this venue. We walked into Primos and were instantly approached by this super friendly, extremely mouthy, drunken Hispanic dood. He introduced himself as Primo. Primo then went on a rant about how great his place was...and walked us over to the "stage". The "stage" was about the size of my bathroom, and stood nearly a half inch off the ground. There were also bags off old food lying all over it. Then Primo pointed to the food and said (In an accent similar to El Guapo from The Three Amigos), "This stage is great! You got some fucking lettuce and shit over here." At this point we all decided we wanted to spend the least amount of time as possible in this joint. We took off and got some dinner at an awesome Chinese restaurant. Upon returning we met a few of the other four bands we were playing with. We also found out that they weren't charging at the door and they might not have a PA. After awhile the PA arrived and the show began. A few of the boys took advantage of the free drink policy and got some rum and cokes. After taking a sip each of them made the face like they just accidentally drank four week old urine. I was actually glad that I picked that night to be the designated driver. The first band was this all girl group...it was there first show and I'd have to say it was pretty damn good. Bob got one of the songs on video called I'll Stab You. I believe it was about a girl who stabbed this guy for trying to steal her chocolate. We were scheduled to go on third that night. We were all pretty anxious to play and get on the road back to San Francisco. We started to set our stuff up after the second band played, but this other band of douche bags cut us off. They had some lame excuse why they had to go on...and the "promoter" was too much of a puss to stick up for us. Their compromise was that they'd only play three songs. Well folks it may of been the worst three songs I've ever heard in my life. After they were done giving music a bad name, we got up there and did our thing. I think we definitely won over most of the people who stuck around that night.
