Los Angeles Part Two

Oh...so it's back to LA for round two. Upon arriving in LA we decide to use the freeways as little as possible. It took us forever to get to the club, but it was worth it. Those damn freeways take years off yer life. We arrived at The Garage before they opened. The headlining band we were playing with was also waiting for the club to open. The Real McKenzie's...I guess are pretty hot shit in the punk scene these days. I'd never heard of em'. So these doods are hanging outside the club drinking whiskey. Now this is about 6 hours or so before they were scheduled to go on. So I figured we were in for a drunken fiesta with their set. A few of us mulled around Sunset Boulevard for awhile looking for some good eats. We ended up finding a pretty good Thai place not far from the club. After dinner we headed back to The Garage...which sorta has this rockabilly feel. There wasn't a very big crowd this night, but I felt like we played a pretty good show. We were only allotted thirty minutes to play, so we blasted through our set in record time. The two bands before and after us were both pretty good, but it was obvious everyone was there to see The Real McKenzie's. The crowd showed up conveniently late to see these "punk rockers." There whole shtick was this Scottish punk persona. They had a dood playing bag pipes who looked like Tommy Lee and the lead singer looked like a fifty year old Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley. Needless to say I wasn't too impressed...nor was I impressed by the $4 Pabst bottles I was paying for. It was at this point that Bacon had a marvelous idea. He bought some beer from 7-11, and bunch of us along with Abe (an old buddy from Missoula) drank beer in The Ambulance. Whilst we were drinking, some drunk couple stumbled over to their SUV and started going at it. He had a gay ol' time doing the voiceovers for this lovely couple. After the McKenzie's were done, it took another hour to get paid. Apparently the McKenzie's and/or their management didn't think the other bands needed to get paid. Toast, whose helped us get shows in LA before, busted her ass to get us $85. She's a real sweetheart that one. A great dood named Craig took our photos at both LA shows. Check em' out!
