Eureka Part One

Now for those of you who remember, the last time we were in Eureka we played at The Vista. Man did that place rule! The owner Bob (who likes to dress up like a pirate and drink like a fish) sold the place since our last visit. I guess they rarely do shows there anymore, and they aren't all ages. This time around we were playing at Denny's. Now originally I thought that this was the name of the club. Oh no... it's a real gal darn Denny's doods! Moons over my hammy and all. Unfortunately they quit doing shows there a few days before we arrived. We missed out on a free meal at Denny's...which in retrospect may have saved our lives. A few of the local kids heard the show got cancelled and convinced their parents to let us play in their basement. So here we are in The Ambulance heading to a gig in suburban Eureka. We pull up to the house donned in our white suits. There were no cars around, so we assumed we had the wrong address. We approached with caution and asked the middle aged couple if there was a rock show in their basement. Sure enough there was. On the way over we had joked that there was going to be bowls of goldfish crackers and candy waiting for us. Sure enough there was...along with a nice assortment of cold soda. They even offered us some cold chicken. When we got downstairs...the band Fro the Lazy was playing, and the kids were doing a conga line. A few of us hopped on the back of the line and let go like some kind of freewheelin' teenager. After a few songs Fro the Lazy started handing out t-shirts. Apparently they had  bought some shirts from the Salvation Army and put our logo on it...along with the date and such. Don't believe me eh? Check it out!

So eventually we got up there and played in this super cramped area...not knowing what to expect. It kicked ass folks! The sound was good...and these kids knew the lyrics to every damn song. Including several that weren't released yet. I guessed they downloaded some live stuff off this site. Bacon videotaped the whole performance, some of which will be available on the aforementioned video for $19.95. After the show, we asked Michelle (the gal who set up the show) where a fellow could get his drink on proper like. She pointed us to one of the cooler bars I've ever been in. The Shanty! The inside is pretty narrow and long with a pool table and Elvira pinball. The jukebox is the best...practically every CD I own is on that beast. After hanging out for awhile...enjoying some Wild Turkey...we realized there was a back to the place. Outside...behind the bar there was a whole nother bar with fireplaces and the like. The jukebox is being blasted outside and the drinks were cheaper. The four of us (Shane went to sleep early at our hotel across the street) hung out all night. It was one of the best moments for me on tour. After the bar shut down, we took the video camera all over downtown to make one of Bob's artsy videos. Wait till you see it doods. It's heelarious! I only shot one role of film on tour...90% of which was used on this night.

Here's some of the kids from the basement show. The dood in the middle is the one who convinced his parents to do it.

When Doug gets that look ya best hit the road or hop on board for a wacky adventure ala Seor Duggles.
I was trying to get a shot of Bacon and Doug doing that classy arm-hook-drinking-maneuver, that they do on soap operas when they're drinking champagne.
I was practicing a new skill I acquired that night where I see into the future.

Seor Duggles behind the bar... playing nice nice with the bartender.

Alright so this one didn't work out. It was supposed to look like there was fire shooting out of his head. Ya can't really see the fire though.
This one worked out a bit better. It's supposed to be me...some sort of fire creature...crawling out of the fire pit.
Here's a shot of the strip club next door. A local guy told me the owner's name is "Whitey."

The video?
Here's where we stayed on both of our visits to Eureka this tour. This time through we stayed in a suite, because we still had money.
