09/08/2003 The day after the show at Von Krahl

Day 8? Entry 1

Estonia is paradise. It's the day after the Tallinn show and we're relaxing at the beachside summer home of Karme. He plays guitar for End Variations. They played with us last night. They were wicked great... sort of like a cross between INXS and The Doors, but with something more. All the bands were awesome (or, as Mihkel tells me the Brittish say, advanced).

Soterios played first. They were younger kids and it was their second show together. It sounded fantastic... like maybe early Camper Van Beethoven? The told me it was Ska, but it's not like the formula ska that we always here. It was really refreshing.

JMKE played next. They are a pretty famous punk band in this area. They were rad. They sung in Estonian and the beats had a sort of polka feel. Villu was the name of the lead singer and he is a local legend. He was very approachable, though, and really cool to us. After the show he told me that listening to us made him remember Squeee. That was a cool way to say it.

In setting up this show, I talked to a bunch of people and I wasn't sure if it was going to work out. Turns out that they were all in contact with each other. Mihkel busted his ass to put the show together. There were some really nice girls at the door that gave everyone surveys asking how they heard about us. The survey forms had our basltic tour logo on them. Wheee!!

Priit, who I had also talked to, helped out also, I think. He played bass in Soterios. He looked a little bit like a young Tim Graham from The Dutch Flat.

Also, I had spoken with Aivar because we were going to do the show at World Clinic. The club closed, though, but Aivar showed up to the Von Krahl and sold merch for us. Bitchin!

Anyway, we played last and people went nuts. We turned our crazy rock knob up to 11. It was awesome. We signed tons of autographs and people were singing our songs afterwards. It was cool to hear Sexy Astronaut sung in Estonian.

We really needed that show. Everyone was tired, a little beaten and a little more demoralized. Everyone is bouncing off the walls now. Well, we're off to a giant flea merket where you can get bootleg clothing (Plima instead of Puma). See ya soon.
